Intellectual Property Allocation Policy

Intellectual Property Allocation Policy

What is ours, what is shared, and under which licence. Last updated October 16, 2026.

1. The Split

The Monsireaux Studio Platform is closed-source. It is not published, and no licence to its source code is granted beyond the limited right to use the Service described in the Service Agreement.

Every development project the Monsireaux Studio works on beyond the Platform is open-source. Software and games are released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPLv3).

2. Content Licensing

Written and published content on the Monsireaux Studio Platform — Journal posts, catalogue copy, and site text — is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

Under that licence you may share the content with attribution, for non-commercial purposes, without modification. You may not sell it, and you may not distribute a modified version.

3. Why the Split

The Platform is the studio's commercial operation, and it funds the rest. The open-source commitment applies to the craft — the software and games we build and release — because that work is better when others can read it, run it, and build on it.

4. Contributions

Contributions to open-source projects are governed by the licence of the project they are made against. Contributions to the closed-source Platform are accepted only under a written agreement.

5. Third-Party Assets

We use third-party libraries and assets under their own licences. Where attribution is required, it appears in the References and Credits policy.
